How to Use AI in a Google Meet Interview: 2026 Setup Guide

interview-copilotai-interviewinterview-tips

Google Meet runs in the browser, which makes it simpler than Zoom to use with an AI interview assistant: there is no app to work around. Join the interview in Chrome or Edge, open the assistant in a second tab and share the Meet tab with it, sound included. With YoodaAI, that means choosing the interview language, clicking Share Screen, picking the Meet tab and leaving "Also share tab audio" on. A short answer then appears a few seconds after each question.

A word on who is writing: we make YoodaAI (about us), so the YoodaAI steps describe our own product, while the Meet steps come from Google's help pages. And a word on whether to do it at all. Employers' rules differ, from disqualifying candidates who use AI to allowing it in some coding rounds, so check before the interview. We cover what interviewers can see and what the rules say in a separate post, with sources.

What you need

  • A laptop or desktop computer with Chrome or Edge. Meet also runs in Firefox and Safari, but YoodaAI needs a browser that can share a tab's audio.
  • The Meet invite link. A Google account helps but isn't required.
  • A YoodaAI account with interview time. Time is bought as credits, 1 credit a minute: 60 credits are $14.99 with no subscription, or $39.99 a month buys 900 credits on the Pro plan.
  • A few minutes before the interview, and two for a rehearsal the day before.

Step 1: Join the Meet call in Chrome or Edge

Meet works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (Google Meet Help). Open the invite in Chrome or Edge, because those are the browsers YoodaAI works in, and follow Google's steps (Google Meet Help):

  1. Click the meeting link in the invite.
  2. In the window that opens, click Join now.

If you aren't signed in to a Google account, enter your name and click Ask to join instead. You can join without an account, but the organizer or another participant has to let you in.

Keep the call's sound in the browser. If you use a phone for the audio, nothing plays in the Meet tab, and there is nothing for YoodaAI to hear.

Step 2: Open YoodaAI in a second tab

In the same browser, open YoodaAI in a new tab, sign in and choose Interview Assistant from the menu.

Set the meeting language first, from the menu at the top of the Interview Screenshare panel. YoodaAI transcribes the call and answers in that language, and it can't be changed once listening starts. It covers 50 languages, including English, Turkish, Spanish, German, French, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin Chinese.

The time you have left appears under the Share Screen button. Credit packs are $14.99 for 60 credits, $29.99 for 180 and $44.99 for 360, and pack credits never expire. A monthly plan is the best value: Pro is $39.99 a month for 900 credits, and its credits renew each month.

Start a minute or two before the interview rather than half an hour early. YoodaAI uses time from the moment it starts listening, and the share itself takes a few seconds.

Step 3: Share the Meet tab, with its sound

Click Share Screen. Your browser opens its sharing window, and whatever you pick goes to YoodaAI only. Nothing is presented in the Meet call. Tab audio sharing is the browser feature at work here: it lets one tab, YoodaAI, hear the sound another tab plays.

  1. At the top, choose the tab option (in Chrome, Chrome Tab).
  2. Click the Meet tab. YoodaAI's own tab is left out of the list.
  3. Check that "Also share tab audio" is on. Chrome shares a tab's sound by default, but this switch is the one thing YoodaAI can't work without.
  4. Click Share.

Shared the wrong tab? Open the Meet tab and click Share this tab instead in the bar at the top of the window.

Step 4: Make sure it is listening

The share panel in YoodaAI should switch to a live picture of the Meet call, labelled Listening to your interview. When people speak, the transcript fills in under labels such as Speaker 1 and Speaker 2.

If you see "Couldn't start screen share" instead, the Meet tab was shared without its sound. Click Try again and leave "Also share tab audio" switched on.

During the interview

After a question, YoodaAI waits for about 1.6 seconds of quiet, so a question still being asked isn't cut off, and then writes its answer in the AI Generated Answer panel. Answers run two to four sentences, or a short code block with a one-line explanation for coding questions, and the latest sits at the top.

If this happensDo this
A question gets no answerClick Generate answer beside that line, or select the words and click the button that appears
You want an answer to something specificType it into the box under the answers and press Enter
Your own words appear in the transcriptClick This is me beside your label; YoodaAI stops answering that voice
You want to see the interviewerThe live picture in YoodaAI shows the Meet call, or put the two windows side by side

Auto-answers fire on lines that sound like questions: a question mark, or words such as what, why, how, tell me or describe. A prompt phrased as an instruction can slip through, which is what the Generate answer button is for.

YoodaAI builds each answer from the question, the last few lines of the call and, if you add it in Personalization, your CV. Without a CV, the examples and numbers have to come from you. Treat each answer as a prompt and say it in your own words.

If you're asked to present your screen

Meet lets you present a tab, a window or your entire screen (Google Meet Help). That presentation is separate from the share YoodaAI uses. But if you present your entire screen, the other participants see everything on it, YoodaAI's tab included, because YoodaAI isn't hidden from screen sharing. Whether you should be using it at that moment is the employer's call, not a setting.

When the interview ends

Click Stop in YoodaAI. When you leave a Meet call, the tab usually stays open on Meet's exit screen, and YoodaAI goes on listening, and using time, until you stop it or close that tab. Closing the Meet tab or stopping the share from the browser's bar ends the session as well. Time is charged by the second, and the rest stays on your account.

Rehearse the day before

Two ways to test, both a couple of minutes long:

  • With a friend. If you have a Google account, start a meeting from meet.google.com, ask a friend to join and ask you two questions, and share that Meet tab with YoodaAI.
  • On your own. Play a video of an interviewer asking questions in another tab, share that tab with YoodaAI and watch the transcript and answers appear.

Either way, a two-minute test uses two minutes of time. To rehearse the answers rather than the setup, YoodaAI's mock interviews run a spoken interview for your role, with follow-up questions on your answers, and the first 10-minute interview is free.

Troubleshooting

  • The Meet tab isn't in the sharing window. Meet and YoodaAI have to be open in the same browser.
  • "Couldn't start screen share." The tab was shared without audio. Click Try again and keep tab audio on.
  • The transcript stays empty. Make sure the call's sound plays in the Meet tab, not through a phone, and that someone is talking. If no sound reaches YoodaAI for 20 seconds after you share, it shows "No sound from the shared tab yet" with these checks.
  • Answers are in the wrong language. Click Stop, change the meeting language, then share again.
  • "You're out of interview time." Buy a pack or start a monthly plan, then share again.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Google account to use AI in a Google Meet interview?

Not for Meet itself: you can join without one, though someone in the meeting has to let you in. YoodaAI needs its own account, and live help is bought with credit packs or a monthly plan.

Can the interviewer see YoodaAI in Google Meet?

Not unless it is on a screen you present. YoodaAI runs in its own tab and sends nothing into the call, its chat or your camera. Interviewers can still notice answers that sound read out, and some employers forbid AI help, so check first.

Does it work with Meet on a phone or tablet?

No. YoodaAI needs Chrome or Edge on a laptop or desktop computer. If you join Meet on your phone, YoodaAI can't hear the call.

Does YoodaAI work with Google Meet in Firefox or Safari?

Meet does, YoodaAI doesn't. It needs Chrome or Edge, because those browsers can share a tab's audio with it.

The short version

  • Join the Meet call in Chrome or Edge, with the sound in the browser.
  • In YoodaAI, set the language, click Share Screen, pick the Meet tab and keep tab audio on.
  • Rehearse the day before, click Stop at the end, and check the employer's rules first.

Interviewing on Zoom? It needs one extra step, joining from the browser: how to use AI in a Zoom interview. For what YoodaAI does with the audio and how it writes answers, see YoodaAI's interview copilot.
