How to Use AI in a Zoom Interview: 2026 Setup Guide

interview-copilotai-interviewinterview-tips

To use an AI interview assistant in a Zoom interview, join the call from your web browser instead of the Zoom app, then share that browser tab, sound included, with the assistant. With YoodaAI, you open the Zoom invite in Chrome or Edge and YoodaAI in a second tab. Then you choose the interview language, click Share Screen and pick the Zoom tab with "Also share tab audio" switched on. From then on, a short answer appears a few seconds after each question.

We make YoodaAI (about us), so the YoodaAI steps below describe our own product. The Zoom steps come from Zoom's help pages, and the browser steps work the same way for any assistant that listens to a browser tab. Before any of it, check that the employer allows AI help: some forbid it and can disqualify candidates who use it, while others allow it in some rounds. Our post on what interviewers can see and what employers' rules say has the details and sources.

What you need

  • A laptop or desktop computer with Chrome or Edge. YoodaAI needs a browser that can share a tab's audio, so it doesn't work on a phone.
  • The Zoom invite link, for a meeting that can be joined from a browser. Step 1 shows how to check.
  • A YoodaAI account with interview time. Time is bought as credits: 1 credit is 1 minute, and 60 credits cost $14.99. Credits are only used while YoodaAI is listening.
  • About five minutes, plus two more for a test run the day before.

Headphones are fine. YoodaAI takes the sound straight from the Zoom tab, not from your speakers, so it hears the interviewer whatever you listen on.

YoodaAI can only hear sound that plays inside a browser tab, so the interview has to run in the Zoom Web App rather than in the Zoom Workplace app installed on your computer. The Zoom Web App is the version of Zoom that runs in a browser tab, with nothing to download.

Zoom offers a "Join from your browser" link on its meeting pages for this. It is switched on by default, but two things remove it, according to Zoom Support. An account admin can turn the setting off, and when the host turns on end-to-end encryption, Zoom sends browser users to its app instead.

You can check a day or two ahead. Open the invite link, and if your browser offers to open the Zoom app, click Cancel. If Join from your browser appears at the bottom of the page, you are set; there is no need to join to see it. If it doesn't, read the section below on what to do when Zoom only offers its app.

Step 2: Join the interview from your browser

On the day, open the invite link in Chrome or Edge and follow Zoom's own steps for joining from a browser (Zoom Support):

  1. If your browser asks to open the Zoom app, click Cancel.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click Join from your browser.
  3. Let the browser use your microphone and camera. Zoom notes that without microphone access you won't be heard.
  4. Enter your name and click Join.

Use your computer's audio rather than dialling in by phone. If the call's sound comes through a phone, nothing plays in the Zoom tab and YoodaAI has nothing to hear. Chrome and Edge show a small speaker icon on a tab that is playing sound, which is a quick way to check.

One change in 2026: since July 22, Zoom has been switching on an invisible CAPTCHA for guests who aren't signed in, in a phased rollout. If it flags you, Zoom asks you to sign in before you can join, so signing in to a Zoom account beforehand saves a step.

Step 3: Open YoodaAI and choose the interview language

Open YoodaAI in a second tab of the same browser, sign in and choose Interview Assistant from the menu. Then:

  1. Pick the interview language from the menu at the top of the Interview Screenshare panel. YoodaAI transcribes the call and writes its answers in that language. It supports 12: English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Japanese, Arabic and Mandarin Chinese.
  2. Check your time. What you have left is shown under the Share Screen button. If you have none, YoodaAI shows "You're out of interview time" and a Buy button instead. Credit packs are $14.99 for 60 credits, $29.99 for 180 and $44.99 for 360, and pack credits never expire. If you interview every week, the Pro plan is the best value: $39.99 a month for 900 credits.

Choose the language before you share. It can't be changed while YoodaAI is listening; to switch, click Stop, change it and share again.

Step 4: Share the Zoom tab with its audio

Click Share Screen in YoodaAI. This opens your browser's own sharing window. What you pick there goes to YoodaAI only; nothing is shared into the Zoom meeting.

  1. Choose the tab option at the top of the window. Chrome calls it Chrome Tab.
  2. Select the Zoom tab. YoodaAI's own tab isn't in the list, so you can't pick it by mistake.
  3. Make sure "Also share tab audio" is switched on. It usually is for tabs, but without it YoodaAI has nothing to listen to.
  4. Click Share.

If you picked the wrong tab, go to the right one and click Share this tab instead in the bar Chrome shows at the top of the window.

Step 5: Check that YoodaAI is listening

Within a few seconds, the panel in YoodaAI turns into a live view of the Zoom tab, marked Listening to your interview. The transcript below it reads "Listening for the conversation…" until someone speaks. Each voice then gets a label, Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on, with that person's words underneath.

If YoodaAI shows "Couldn't start screen share" instead, the tab was shared without its audio. Click Try again and leave "Also share tab audio" switched on.

During the interview

YoodaAI waits until the interviewer has been quiet for about 1.6 seconds, so it doesn't answer a question that is still being asked. Then it writes an answer in the AI Generated Answer panel: two to four sentences, or a short code block with a one-line explanation for a coding question. The newest answer is always at the top.

A few things help:

  • It answers what sounds like a question. A line that ends in a question mark, or uses words such as what, how, tell me or walk me through, gets an answer. If a prompt doesn't, click Generate answer next to that line, or select the words and click the button that appears.
  • You can type a question. Write it in the box under the answers and press Enter.
  • It doesn't know your resume. Answers are built from the question and the last few lines of the conversation, so add your own examples, numbers and names when you speak.
  • It listens to the other people on the call. It hears the Zoom tab, not your microphone. If any of your own words do show up, click This is me next to that speaker, and YoodaAI won't answer them.
  • The live view shows the call. You can see who is speaking without switching tabs, or put the two windows side by side.

When the interview ends

Click Stop in YoodaAI. Closing the Zoom tab, or stopping the share from Chrome's bar, stops it too.

Leaving the meeting isn't enough on its own. If the Zoom tab stays open, YoodaAI keeps listening, and keeps using your time, until you stop it. Time is counted by the second while it listens, and whatever is left stays on your account for the next interview.

Test your setup the day before

A two-minute rehearsal catches most problems. Open a video of someone asking interview questions in another tab, on YouTube for example, and share that tab with YoodaAI in the same way. Check that the transcript fills and that an answer appears after a question, then click Stop. Two minutes of listening uses two minutes of your time.

To practise the answers themselves, try a free mock interview: YoodaAI's AI interviewer asks questions for your role out loud and follows up on what you say, and the first 10-minute interview costs nothing.

What the interviewer sees

Nothing from YoodaAI. It runs in its own tab and sends nothing into the meeting, its chat or your camera, and the share in step 4 is between two of your own tabs, not a Zoom screen share. The audio goes from your browser to our speech-to-text provider, Speechmatics, and YoodaAI doesn't record the call.

The exception is a screen you share in Zoom yourself. If you are asked to share your screen, for a coding exercise for example, and you share your entire screen, everything on it can be seen, YoodaAI's tab included. YoodaAI isn't hidden from screen sharing, and we don't sell it as invisible. Interviewers also notice answers that sound read out, which is why the answers are meant to be put in your own words.

If Zoom only offers its app

With no "Join from your browser" link, the meeting opens only in the Zoom app, and YoodaAI can't hear the app through a tab. There is one other route.

When you click Share Screen, choose Entire Screen, and if the browser offers Also share system audio, switch it on. YoodaAI then hears your computer's sound, the Zoom app included. Whether that option appears depends on your browser version and operating system. It also carries every other sound your computer makes, such as notifications, so turn those off first. Run the day-before test this way to make sure it works on your computer.

Troubleshooting

  • "Couldn't start screen share." The tab was shared without its audio. Click Try again and keep "Also share tab audio" on.
  • The transcript stays empty. Check that the call's sound plays in the Zoom tab: you joined with computer audio, not by phone, and someone is speaking. If no sound reaches YoodaAI for 20 seconds after you share, it shows "No sound from the shared tab yet" with these checks.
  • Answers come in the wrong language. Click Stop, change the interview language and share again.
  • "You're out of interview time." Buy a pack or start a monthly plan, then share again.
  • YoodaAI stopped by itself. Your time ran out, or the shared tab was closed.
  • Zoom asks you to sign in. Its CAPTCHA for guests flagged the join; sign in to continue.
  • You use Safari or Firefox. Zoom's Web App runs in them, but YoodaAI needs Chrome or Edge.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use an AI interview assistant with the Zoom desktop app?

Not through a browser tab, because the app's sound doesn't play in one. Join from your browser instead. If the meeting only opens in the app, sharing your entire screen with system audio switched on lets YoodaAI hear it, where your browser offers that option.

Will the interviewer know I'm using YoodaAI in Zoom?

YoodaAI sends nothing into the Zoom meeting, so it is visible only if it is on a screen you share. That doesn't make it undetectable: interviewers notice answers that sound read out, and some employers forbid AI help, so check the rules first.

Does it work if I join Zoom on my phone?

No. YoodaAI needs Chrome or Edge on a laptop or desktop computer, because it relies on the browser sharing a tab's audio.

How much does it cost to use YoodaAI for one Zoom interview?

The smallest pack is $14.99 for 60 credits, with no subscription, and 1 credit is 1 minute of live help. Credits are only used while YoodaAI is listening, so a 45-minute interview uses 45 credits and the rest stays on your account. If you have interviews every week, the Pro plan is $39.99 a month for 900 credits.

The short version

  • Join the Zoom interview from your browser, with your computer's audio.
  • In YoodaAI, choose the language, click Share Screen, pick the Zoom tab and keep tab audio on.
  • Test it the day before, click Stop when you finish, and check the employer's rules first.
